Everything owners ask about licensing company data.

Grouped by the questions that come up most. If yours isn't here, write to sales@lineagery.com and a person will answer.

The basics

What does Lineagery actually do?
We buy the operational record of real businesses — the history that accumulates in Slack, email, drives, CRMs and ticketing tools — anonymize it, and license it to AI labs that need authentic examples of how work happens. We are the buyer, not a broker.
Why would an AI lab want our data?
Labs can generate clean, finished examples on demand. What they cannot manufacture is years of real people disagreeing, misdiagnosing, correcting course and reaching an answer. That texture only exists inside operating companies, and it is what we pay for.
Who qualifies?
Any company with genuine operating history: software, services, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare administration, finance, retail, hospitality, construction and more. Size and revenue matter less than how long and how richly the record runs.
Do you buy data from companies that have shut down?
Yes, provided the entity (or its owner) still holds the rights to the record. A wound-down company's archive is often exactly the kind of long, complete history labs value most.

Money

How much do you pay?
Most licenses settle between $100K and $2M; large or very long records go higher. We price on depth of history, how much reasoning is visible, how many systems are included, and how much is in English or another high-demand language.
What does it cost us?
Nothing. No fee, no commission, no retainer, no success fee. Because we are buying rather than representing you, there is nothing to deduct.
Is this an investment or a loan?
Neither. A data license carries no equity and no debt. It does not touch your cap table and creates no repayment obligation.
When does the money arrive?
Net 30–60 after the record has been approved, delivered and anonymized. We do not pay for records we have not reviewed, so review always precedes payment.
Can we negotiate?
Yes. Every offer has an accept and a counter. The person who made the offer is the person who responds to the counter.

Process

What happens after I fill in the intake?
Someone reads your answers, usually the same day. If there is a market for what you hold, you'll be asked for exact record counts (not files), and a reviewer reads an anonymized sample. A written offer follows within one to two weeks.
Do I have to upload anything to get an offer?
No. Intake asks for counts and years in use, which you can read off each tool's admin page. Nothing leaves your systems until an offer is signed.
How long does the whole thing take?
Typically four to ten weeks from first intake to payment: up to two weeks for an offer, a few days for signatures, two to three weeks for anonymization and delivery, then the payment term.
Can I talk to someone before filling in anything?
Yes — but answer the three intake questions first. Your answers are read before the call, which makes the call shorter and more useful.

Data, privacy and rights

What counts as operational data?
Slack and Teams, email, shared drives and SharePoint, spreadsheets, CRM history, support and ticketing systems, design files, call recordings, accounting and ERP exports, project trackers, wikis and internal docs.
Is customer information removed?
Yes. An independent de-identification partner strips names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, account and card numbers before anyone at Lineagery or any lab reads the record. Roles, timestamps and the substance of the work are preserved.
Does anyone at Lineagery see the raw record?
No. We review the anonymized sample, not the raw export. Only two named people at Lineagery can ever see a company's identity alongside its data, and labs see de-identified material only.
Do we need to own the data outright?
You need the rights to license it. Your own Slack, email, CRM and files almost always qualify. Data you hold on behalf of your clients — their files, their customers' records — is out of scope and excluded from every license.
What exactly does the license cover?
Named systems, for a defined term, with a defined permitted use. By default it is exclusive for that scope. You keep the business, the underlying data, and full use of both.
Where does the data end up?
With AI labs, under license terms that forbid resale or use outside scope. We do not disclose which labs receive which records, in the same way we never disclose one client's terms to another.
Will anyone contact our staff or customers?
Never. Lineagery is your only counterparty, and labs never learn who you are.
